Hello Everyone! I am Hannah Burke, a year 9 scout and have been at The 22nd Southgate Scout Troop for 4 years now, honestly it only feels like yesterday that I was joining in level 1! It has been incredible, and carrying on from this experience I have just been on another enjoyable camp in -1-degree weather which was extremely sub-zero and freezing, yet I still had a brilliant time like I do after every camp!
We stayed one night in Scout Park. The Camp was called the ‘District One Metre High Camp’, where in groups, we had to build a structure large enough for all the members in our group to sleep on. The Challenge was to have the structure 1 Metre off the ground and every scout who took part, managed to achieve this! We had to use different materials to build the structure. These included: pallets, crates, step ladders, planks and table tops. Despite the uneven surfaces, they were surprisingly comfortable! We worked well as a team and it was great seeing the younger scouts getting stuck in too.
We then (as tradition dictates) had a very cosy and cheerful campfire . These always prove very popular as it’s a chance to sing, dance and reflect on the exciting, jampacked day that we all had – Especially the Danish boot dance (thanks Jemma!). I also loved leading a few of the songs too, especially the ‘Ooh ain’t that funky’ battle with Tom and his team which I won!! As well as this, I really liked being around friends and the fantastic leaders – it’s my favourite way to end a fun-filled camp!
However, there was still the not so small task of getting into “Bed” due to the 11 layers I was wearing. The fact that the pond even froze overnight gives you an idea of how cold it was and no one needed an alarm due to the duck!
It was a very eventful one nighter and I even managed to gain my 35 nights away. I hope to achieve my 50 nights away by the end of my phenomenal scouting journey!
All of the scouts worked really well together on this camp and that’s what is most important – Working Together Everyone Achieves More!
