The Cub Pack, as the ‘middle section’, takes the Beaver and turns him into the potential Scout. Our age range is 8 – 10½, which approximates with their time in the Juniors at school up to the end of Year Five. The Six system allows all the Cubs a chance to be Seconder, and then Sixer, giving them the opportunity to lead a small group. As Sixers, they also plan games and programmes as well as being of help to the Leaders at the meetings. Hopefully this means that when they go up into the Scouts, they are ready for the tasks and responsibilities that Scouting activities ask of them.
We have a full programme of Activity and Challenge Badges, which allow the Cubs to think about others, practice scouting skills for themselves in a safe environment and live out their Promise to the best of their abilities. All Scouts make a promise when they are invested: Cubs promise to do their best, think of others and do a good turn every day and the number one skill we want to impart to our Cubs is “do your best”. Trying to make them see that this doesn’t always mean winning is our priority!!
Our Pack takes a full part in District competitions, and we are generally very successful, especially at the active events such as swimming, football and athletics. Take time to look at the trophies we hold and you will see our name goes back many years on some of them!
We are sponsored by the Catholic Church of our Lady of Lourdes but you do not have to be a Catholic to join the Pack. Our members tend to come from the primary schools of Our Lady of Lourdes, St Martin de Porres and Sacred Heart but we nearly always have a few from other local schools.
